Da Bomb Gunpowder: new street rig that will blow your mind
by dabombbike
Posted: Jan 7, 2009
Street riding and Dirt Jumping have always been some of our favorite aspects of mountain biking, and here at Da Bomb we've made a new rig for those riders: the Gunpowder.
Da Bomb bikes have been making 4130 chromoly hardtail frames for a long time. At Da Bomb we believe 4130 chromoly is one of the toughest materials on earth that it can be welded together and become a bike frame. “Steel is real baby!” From the original the CR8, to the Grenade, then the C4, and in 2009 we proudly announce our new and real street machine, the GUNPOWDER.
Frame material is always the same, street and dirt jump proven Reynolds tubing. It works like it always does, but we added some new technologies to spice it up a bit. With our brand new internally reinforced and double butted tubing, it makes it as strong as it always has been but lighter than ever. Brand new LRG : Low Riding Geometry (also available on our Molotov 3 frame) makes it low, stable and manualable, ready to hop and spin.
The Campy style integrated headset design reduces lots of weight, creates a lower stack height, and also makes it look cool.
The integrated chain tensioner is ready for single speed; but for those who have a need for speed...don’t worry, our Gunpowder still has a rear derailleur hanger and ISCG 03/05 tabs on it. If single speed is just a little bit slower than what you were expecting…Gunpowder is ready to go fast.
Then some test riding...and it is totally AWESOME. Even though I am one of the designers, this bike is way better than I had expected. Manualing it is just a piece of cake. I can also jump higher than what I could on my old bike. LRG just make 180s and 360s so smooth. This bike totally blows my mind like shooting a bullet, the moment that I'm on the Gunpowder, I believe I can fly.
Thanks for watching Da Bomb show, we have only shared a little bit about the Gunpowder, but if you wish to know more, please visit our website at www.dabombbike.com or you can email your questions to info@dabombbike.com.

nice ride looks sweet
Yes it does but pinkbike needs to stop having ads in the news section. Only reviews should show up here! I hate clicking the link expecting to find a sweet review only to find a completely biased sales pitch.
too bad they dont tell how much it ways
since their using really tough steel of course they dont show the weight
why? because i bet this bike is heavier than my DH bike
watch this thing reach 40 pounds

"This bike totally blows my mind like shooting a bullet, the moment that I'm on the Gunpowder, I believe I can fly"........Classic statement, lol...put it on a shirt

looks good, but that was a seriously bias mini 'review' Dabomb should a have paid pinkbike for an ad instaead.
They did pay them. How do you think they got it in the news section. Probably paid them more to put it in the news section to get more hits.
"The Campy style integrated headset design reduces lots of weight, creates a lower stack height, and also makes it look cool."
Yes it reduces stack height, looks more like a bmx or road frame if that's your definition of cool, but does not reduce LOTS of weight! What a load of crap.
If you want a nice steel frame there are plenty of better options.

These bikes look like BMX's anyways, and most people use them for the same stuff... so what's your point?
true...they are overgrown BMX bikes but they have the ability to hit trails that bmx bikes can't flow thru cuz of the suspension. It's all good to me. I ride both at the track and trail and the bigger wheels give you more stability at higher speeds and drops...you couldn't do slopestyle stuff safely on 20s and on a tight technical bmx track 26s are not as quick.
i'm curious, how much does an integrated / campy style headset and headtube save over a regular headtube and regular headset, on average?
5, 10, 50, 100 grams?
5, 10, 50, 100 grams?
on headtube : almost the same (while Eastern's campy headtubes are lighter then normal headtubes).....on headsets : campy's are like 60~90 grams while some DH spec headsets are more than 200 grams....

everything on that frame is too fussy, you're trying to please everyone. stop it. also, poor graphics.
Not a fan, tbh. Overbuilt, heavy, gusseted frames, while they are Da Bomb's style of bike, just aren't logical.
No competition for the other street frames out there at the moment, at all.

i have a friend who work in the factory....he said that this thing was like about somewhere between 5 to 6 pounds , but close to 6 , not bad for a fat tube steel frame

"I believe I can fly"
- what a load of crapola - its just yet another run of the mill steel frame with absolutely no defining features whatsoever, either get a bmx or buy a full susser!
Interesting lack of clear, fully build side-on pic too.
Credit where it's due though, the dropouts are nice and tidy.

whaaaat!? the drop outs are the worst disgrace! there is nothing tidy about them, it's like withnail and i back there
I know this sound a dumb question but where is Da Bomb originally from? I know they're made in Taiwan, but where is the companie's headquarters? Where they started? Don't know why but always thought they were swedish.
It hasn't blown my mind yet... I might be tempted to buy it as a lake-jumper if it would blow something else...
so anyone else notice that their site looks like it was put together by a spastic 12 year old with too much time on their hands and a very basic knowledge of flash animation?
And where is the frames/geometry section???

i would say thats a wee bit more than basic flash knowledge, its a nice site but the stupid beeping noise was pissing my off........i would buy some of they're components if my LBS stocked them, might buy the gun powder if its not two expensive, the one thing thats turning me off of their other two dj/street frames is that they is alum
is it just me or do dabomb seem to have a slightly natziish logo an all there frames are called molotov an gunpowder ect. just seems like an odd choice of logo an name for a bike company.
I like it. The name and the logo as well.
They have frames called sputnik and molotov so you can't say that they're nazis. It's just some kinda military stuff.. I don't care mutch about it..

That my friend is the Iron cross. It's a military medal given to German soldiers. It isn't a Nazi symbol at all but I'm guessing more then a few soldiers from the Wehrmacht got these back in the day.
I would just like to take this oppertunity state that i have never and will never own one of these bikes. my username bears no reference to this company and i never want anyone to think that i would associate myself with this company out of choice.

if your referring to the holes at the bottom of the chainstays and seat stays (which i must say i didnt see before making my first comment) , they are ugly as sin, why would you do that.
The pictures suck! Barely show the bike.....wtf? And is that a seatpost shim I see? That's pretty ghetto. Just another generic looking Taiwanese made frame that completely lacks any style. I hope it truly rides as nice as they say!

Yawn! Wow, another mindblowing hardtail frame to throw on the growing heap of other mindblowing hardtail frames.
AWWWW YEAH, A STEEL FRAMED HARDTAIL WITH LOW GEOMETRY. JUST WHAT WAS MISSING FROM THE MARKET.
You know, what with the NS', BlackMarkets, Dobermanns, Identitis, DMRs, DC's, and whatnot.
